Bone Collector Double Duty 400 FPS Field Point Target Does The Job
As crossbow speeds rocket past 400 feet per second so the does the need for quality targets that can properly absorb bolts moving at these speeds. While the self healing foam targets have always stood up to this challenge they are now being faced with a new one, friction.
Foam targets still absorb the impact of high speed bolts but now have a tendency to melt especially if the target is in a cool location. The temperature matters because the cooler foam targets become denser, which in turn causes the bolts to melt the foam. This can make removing bolts difficult if not impossible and makes target shooting a chore. Most traditional bag targets don’t fare well against high speed crossbow but there are a few that stand up to the challenge.
One of these that I’ve personally tested is the Bone Collector Double Duty 400 FPS field point target. It’s a square 19″ X 19″ X 19″ target that weighs in at around 32 pounds. You can shoot all four sides which feature everything from a dartboard game, to bull’s eye, a 9 ball game and of course your deer vitals.
The target has carrying handles, is 100% weatherproof, and comes with a 2 year warranty. The system is advertised to utilize IFS Technology (Internal Frame System) and a patented nucleus center for improved durability. I was shooting at Excalibur Matrix 405 with a 170 grain broadhead on the Diablo arrows at a variety of distances out to 60 yards. This target stood up to the test, stopping all the bolts at all distances before the fletching. On top of that they came back out with ease no signs of melting or substantial stress on the bag.
The only drawback is that this is of course only for field points so for those of you that like to practice with your fixed blades you will have to find a different solution. Other than that with is a excellent target and great value for anyone out there looking for a high speed bow target.
